More than one golf writer has said the 6,840-yard par 72 Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course is designed much like the courses built centuries ago in the British Isles. Built on million-year-old sand dunes located in central Maui, the Dunes is indeed inspired by such great venues, with its clever hole designs and rugged terrain closely mimicking the birthplace of golf.

The front nine heads out and the back nine heads in just like many classic links courses. "Anyone who has seen Ballybunion, Wild Dunes, or Shinnecock Hills will recognize a similar look and feel at The Dunes," says course designer Robin Nelson.

Its layout snakes around the course’s ancient sand dunes - not through them. These dunes, shaped by the winds over a million years, are where the holes weave and turn. Golf shots must be played through these natural gaps much like at the greatest links courses on earth.

In addition to good golf, The Dunes at Maui Lani has the only lit driving range with grass tees in central Maui, and is home to the newly opened Dunes Restaurant. All are very conveniently located in central Maui.
